Client Profile #1
Our client is a retired woman. The majority of her financial needs are met from the income generated by her investment portfolio. Her primary investment objective is for a stable and growing income stream over time in order to maintain her standard of living despite inflationary pressures. Her assets are invested in a balanced portfolio. The equity portion is comprised of a well-diversified portfolio made up of mainly large companies that are financially strong and leaders in their industries. The fixed income portfolio is well diversified by both issuer and maturity. As the equity portfolio has grown the asset allocation has been rebalanced in order to maintain the relative portion of the income producing debt securities.
Client Profile #2
Our client was an elderly widower suffering from a degenerative disease. This client was able to utilize many of the diverse services made available by Burns & Levinson’s Private Client Group. His assets were spread out among several financial institutions in a variety of investments. We consolidated his assets and arranged to have social security and pension funds deposited into his account. It was determined that maximizing income was the primary investment objective so a fixed income portfolio comprised of government securities, banks CDs and corporate bonds was created. Our staff contacted vendors and paid the client’s expenses from funds generated by the portfolio.
In the mean time, Burns and Levinson’s legal staff created trusts in order to provide for the client’s disabled child upon his passing. Our real estate affiliate secured an assisted living facility into which the client moved. Repairs to the home were then contracted, the house sold, and the assets added to the income producing portfolio.
Upon the client’s death the trust investments were restructured to meet the needs and objectives of the beneficiary, his special needs daughter. In this way the trust is now able to provide an income to assist the beneficiaries current needs as well as provide growth assets to hedge against the long term risks of inflation.
Client Profile #3
Our client is a self employed, financially sophisticated professional. The portfolio is invested for maximum growth potential and is comprised mainly of equity securities. The portfolio is well diversified among sectors with several sectors and industries being over-weighted as compared to our benchmark. The portfolio also has a small (2% total) position in a few companies that are leaders in a hard hit sector with substantial growth prospects. These companies have suffered severe declines in revenues due to the bursting of the technology bubble but have strong balance sheets and growing market share.
Client Profile #4
Our client is a recent divorcee who received a settlement of very low basis stock. The client requires significant income distributions and also wishes to grow the assets over the long term. A program was designed to methodically realize capital gains on the existing positions over a period of time while using the proceeds to build a balanced portfolio consisting of tax-free municipal bonds and income producing common stocks.

Our client is a family charitable foundation. A balanced portfolio was built to provide both current income and growth potential. In addition, our office acts as the business office for the foundation receiving grant applications, secretarial support, and coordinating tax preparation.
