Evelyn Haralampu is a Member of Burns & Levinson Asset Management’s Investment Policy Committee. Ms. Haralampu oversees Burns & Levinson LLP's employee benefits/ERISA practice. Ms. Haralampu has extensive experience advising both businesses and non-profit entities on matters affecting the employer-employee relationship. In particular, she counsels on employee benefits design, executive compensation programs, equity-based compensation program and health plans, drafts employment agreements, and advises on various employment law matters including FMLA, ADA and COBRA. Ms. Haralampu assists employers with benefits and executive compensation issues in the context of corporate reorganizations, bankruptcies and succession planning. She counsels individuals on estate planning issues and property settlements in divorce related to employee benefits. Ms. Haralampu represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Department of Labor, and counsels on ERISA controversies in the courts.
Ms Haralampu's expertise extends to the areas of healthcare privacy and other health law issues. She also counsels on tax and immigration issues related to the employment relationship.
Ms. Haralampu has contributed to the continued professional education of Massachusetts lawyers in a number of capacities. She has chaired the Boston Bar Association ERISA/Employee Benefits Committee, and co-chaired the Tax Steering Committee of the Boston Bar Association. Ms. Haralampu has been a contributing member of the Committee on Government Submissions of the American Bar Association and, in that capacity, has assisted the ABA in recommending policy changes in the federal tax law.
Ms. Haralampu speaks and writes extensively on various ERISA, HIPAA, employee benefits and tax matters, both to professional and lay audiences. She is a contributing author of the MCLE treatise, Massachusetts Employment Law, and a recent panelist and author for the Federal Tax Institute of New England. She is also published in the National Law Journal, Boston Business Journal and Mass High Tech.
Ms. Haralampu sits on the Board of Directors for the New England Pension Assistance Project of the Gerontology Institute at University of Massachusetts Boston and is active in assisting that organization in its pro bono work.
